The nervous system influences and controls all aspects of physiological function, including sensory perception, muscle control, cognition, and even other organ systems. To understand how molecular, cellular, and circuit mechanisms work in this context requires the development of a multitude of tools for investigation at a range of spatial and temporal scales. These tools include molecular and genetic approaches for manipulating synapses and long-range neuronal communication, theoretical and computational tools, and engineered systems and instrumentation such as those developed for enhanced optics and microscopy. Indeed, the acceleration of tool development in Neuroscience has already enabled unprecedented measurement and manipulation of these processes, bringing us to a closer understanding of nervous system function in a more holistic way.
This year’s Suddath Symposium will bring together world leaders from within the Atlanta community and beyond to discuss exciting new conceptual and technological advances in neurotechnology and neuroscience. Topics will focus around tools and applications, particularly relevant to understand neuromodulation, broadly defined, and synaptic control. The symposium will be an exciting forum for discussion and will promote exchange of ideas amongst scientists and engineers to identify new challenges and opportunities in a wide range of experimental systems.
The Suddath Symposium is held annually to celebrate the life and contribution of F.L. "Bud" Suddath by discussing the latest developments in the fields of bioengineering and bioscience.
